Alligator and Crocodile Storytime

I got to do a 3-5 storytime today!

Where is Thumbkin?

What Time Is It, Mr. Crocodile? by Judy Sierra, illustrated by Doug Cushman

I love the repetitive "What time is it Mr. Crocodile?" that the kids all shout out with me. Basically, Mr. Crocodile, esquire, learns to accept that he cannot defeat (catch, cook, and eat) those pesky monkeys, so he might as well be friends with them. Hilarious pictures.

5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

So, yeah, that doesn't have anything to do with Alligators or Crocodiles, but the book that Mr. Crocodile reads with the monkeys involves jumping on the bed and falling, so...

Hickory Dickory Dock

Snip Snap!: What's That? by Mara Bergman, illustrated by Nick Maland

I love what this one says about being afraid is totally normal, but you can still stand up and face your fears, even when you're shaking in your boots.

The Alligator Cheer!

This is a real cheer they used to do at my junior high. It makes an AWESOME action rhyme.

Me: A-L-L-I
Kids: A-L-L-I
Me: G-A-T-O-R
Kids: G-A-T-O-R
All: Alligator alligator (clapping with our hands horizontal, aka, normal)
Eat 'em up! Eat 'em up! (clapping with our hands vertical, so we look like giant alligator jaws chomping)
Alligator alligator (horizontal clapping)
Eat 'em up! Eat 'em up! (vertical clapping)

Shake My Sillies Out

Clarabella's Teeth by An Vrombault

Poor Clarabella-- she has sooooooooooooooooo many teeth that by the time she's done brushing them in the morning, it's time to get ready for bed! Very funny.

Alligator Cheer (again, because it's great!)

Wide Mouthed Frog Puppet show which morphs into

5 Little Monkeys Swinging from a Tree flannel board.

Comin' Round the Mountain.
