Today was the final meeting of our book club! *sniff sniff*
We take the summer off, so we'll start up again in September.
I had been planning on having them read one of the Scientists in the Field books (they'd all read a different one and tell us about "their" scientist and project. BUT! The day before it was time to get extra copies in from other branches, Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder arrived in paperback, which means I could get enough copies. Now, I had already read (and loved) this silly lovely book, so I asked the kids "Do you want to read a short book with lots of cool pictures about a real person, or a book called Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder? And they all said "FART POWDER!"
So... that's what we read.
We talked a little about books in translation (this was originally published in Norwegian) and how Jo Nesbo's other books are for adults and contain a lot of bloody murders.
We talked about our favorite parts and the funniest bits.
And, as this was our last meeting, we talked a bit about summer reading and which book we had read was their favorite (many votes for Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder and NERDS: National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society. Other books that got votes were Regarding the Fountain and Drita, My Homegirl)
Most importantly though, we ate a lot of pizza. Om nom nom. PIZZA.
They asked for a pizza party at our first meeting and I told them that if they read every book this year and finished it, then they'd have pizza at our final meeting. Not everyone finished every book, but I know they at least made a decent effort and so we chowed down. Om nom nom.
